Swooning over this collection’s element of sprezzatura (“artful dishevelment” or “bold carelessness” if you will) and developed relationship between daintiness and roughness.
Designer Angie Johnson reveals, “The spring/summer 2012 collection started out with an obsession over the tilework used in the Montreal metro system. Largely built in the 1960s in preparation for the World Expo (‘67)countless artists and architects were commissioned to create tile installations throughout the system. The playful and optimistic mood of the city at that time seems to be captured in this work, which led me to explore the idea of working with handmade tiles in the jewelry of this collection. I tracked down 2 clay artists from the USA who created all the tiles used in this collection. I also replicated some of this tilework through digital prints and the use of textured neutrals, which conveniently mimic many of the textured walls/ceilings that can be found throughout the metro system.”
